Help screen for Setting Mail, Newsand HomePage preferences in NetScape 4.0x & 4.x Communicator

NOTE: Internet Mail users should not use Netscape Navigator 4.x Stand Alone as it does not support InterNet mail. It does not have settings for configuring the Mail Server.. .

To Set Mail Preferences:

On the NetScape Main screen you should see File, Edit, View, Go, Communicator and Help in the upper left corner.....

1) --- Click on Edit then select preferences.

2) --- Click on the plus sign to get a minus sign next to Mail & Groups.

3) --- Click on Mail Server under Category.. Then fill in as needed:

Mail Server user name: put in you mail account name
For example: if your address was bob@loblolly.net, then your email account name is bob.

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:smtpservername this is for your outgoing or SMTP server.
NOTE: be sure to use your connecting ISP's SMTP server.. Example: you want to check your Earthlink mail account
but you are connected to the Internet via MindSpring. Use Mindsprings SMTP server not Earthlink.

Incoming mail server: pop3mailserver For example: your email address is bob@loblolly.net then
your email account is bob and your pop3 mail server is likely to be mail.loblolly.net.

4) --- Select POP3 (messages and folders are kept locally on the hard disk) by making sure there is a dot in the circle.

Netscape Comunicator 4.x is a bit different on the setup as shown below.

To Set News Preferences:

5) --- Click on Groups Server under Category..

6) --- Under Discussion groups (news) server:

put in your ISP's news server name.

To Set Home Page Preferences:

7) --- Click on Navigator under Category...

8) --- You will see :

Home Page

Clicking the Home button will take you to this page.

Location: whatever home page you want

9) --- Click on OK.. We are done.. Enjoy!
